She said her first word - well words really.
She has been saying "oh oh" for a couple of weeks now - and she says it at the appropriate times, like right before she drops her teething biscuit on the floor for Cooper to snack on, or before she drops a random toy. I find this hilarious - because we don't play the "watch the silly adult pick the toy up off the floor over and over again" game. But clearly this is a sign that she understands language as a way to communicate.
Anyways this weekend while playing the "Where's Althea" game - a modified version of peek-a-boo in which the response is "There she is!" - Miss Althea decided to play along, with language. In response to the question "Where's Althea? Where did she go?" she said, "There she is!" Not kidding. So of course like any good social scientist we repeated the experiment and had the same results. I am stunned. Sue (our social worker from MAPS) had predicted that Althea would speak before walking - but even Sue did not see a full sentence coming at 10 months. I know that parents can get a little worked up over these things, and I am
definitely worked up about this but can you blame me? At this rate - the sentence, the tooth I expect that she will be walking/running very soon - heaven help us.
